Planespotting locations at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (ATH/LGAV)


On the following map, you can find spots for photographing/observing aircraft at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” along with information about each spot regarding access, what you can see from each spot, and the photographic equipment required to get a good result. Of course, there are other spots, but these are the most well-known and easiest to access.

Photography is not prohibited at Athens International Airport, but you may be subject to checks by the Hellenic Police. Simply comply with their instructions and be polite.

The use of airport frequency listening devices is prohibited. If the Hellenic Police find such devices on you or in your vehicle, you will be taken to the police station and face charges, and the Greek courts may impose a significant penalty.

Additionally, please respect the farmers’ fields, do not park your vehicles in the fields, and do not leave litter behind.

The following is an explanation for each spot individually.

Point #1
To reach this spot, exit the Attiki Odos at exit K1 “local roads” and follow the signs towards the Europcar or Volta4U facilities. Before the end of the road, there is a space on the right with a fig tree. Park there.

From this spot, you can photograph aircraft arrivals for landing on runway 03L from morning until noon. The light is good from morning until around 11:00 AM, after which the sun moves overhead. In summer, heat haze may be present.

Equipment requirements:
For aircraft such as the Boeing 777, Airbus A350, etc., a 100-120mm lens is sufficient. For A320, B737,150mm lens is needed.
There are no facilities in the area, so bring everything you need with you!
